Use These Easy Steps for Starting Small Business Online

Hi there and welcome. This post is about “you” starting small business online with almost nothing but the idea. itself. This is more about growing and developing that idea into a viable business.

Let’s start at the beginning.

Finding That “Idea” and Market Research

Tapping into your passions and skills to brainstorm business concepts is not something everyone considers. Choosing something that resonates with you is the first step.. Remember, your first idea doesn’t need to be your last idea. Iterate on it, mull it over, mold it, and see where it takes you.

Market research is the detective work that tells you if there’s a demand for your product or service idea. It reveals who your competitors are, what customers really want, and how you can stand out. It’s important to understand your market and identifying gaps and how you can fill them.

Finding a niche might sound daunting, but think of it as identifying your business’s home. It’s a specific segment of the market where your product or service fits. Ever notice how Maccas and KFC happen to get on the busy corners? Identifying a niche helps focus your efforts and resources on capturing That particular audience. Using tools like Google Trends helps to find the niche.

Don’t Forget The SWOT Analysis

The SWOT analysis stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Using SWOT will build your business strategy. It will help to maximize strengths and opportunities while mitigating weaknesses and threats. It’s up to you to identify clearly each aspect of the swot analysis. Note that if done with bias, it could provide misleading information.

Why are these foundational steps critical? Because when followed correctly they will transition a business into a robust online presence. Being strategic from the start prepares you to market your business effectively and capture your audience. It will also help set up the next successful online venture. Don’t laugh! You could be building multiple online business ventures in the future like many others have.

Building a Compelling Online Presence

Developing a striking website or app needs to be more than just good design; it’s needs to offer great functionality and user experience. This is where creative effort pays off. Ensure that it’s easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing otherwise people will quickly abandon it. That’s called the “bounce rate” when people bounce to the next page or site.

How about attracting visitors to your site and turning them into customers? That’s where the essentials of digital marketing come into play. Digital Marketing includes…

  • meticulous attention to SEO to increase your visibility in search results

We’ve all seen those Instagram videos identifying a viral post with no action to monetize it. Don’t let that be you. Take advantage of a simple as a call to action for people to buy.

You might be wondering, ‘Why diversify?’ Well, think of diversification as a safety net. It’s a strategy that can safeguard your income and keep the revenue flowing especially if you set up multiple streams. Much like we diversify our financial assets we can do similarly with our business.

Here’s Some Simple Tips How To Diversify

Let’s talk about the potential of dropshipping; it’s a game changer for many. With dropshipping, you’re going to sell physical products without the hassle of holding inventory or managing shipments. This model allows you to focus on customer service and marketing, while your supplier takes care of the rest. It’s one of those opportunities in the online business space that can significantly lower your entry barriers. But have you thought about selling digital products? Doing so can create another source of income.

Now, teaching an online course can be another lucrative path if you have expertise in a particular field. why not share that knowledge? The demand for online learning has skyrocketed with platforms like Udemy and Teachable. Developing a high-quality course can be time-consuming, but once it’s up and running, it can provide a steady source of passive income for years to come. What about creating video presentations? This is just another way to add income by diversifying.

Do you see how easy it is?

Perhaps you’re a jack-of-all-trades and freelancing might be the ticket for you. Offering services from graphic design to web development, or even copywriting, can help you to tap into the ever-growing freelance economy with websites like Upwork and Fiverr. Why not think about boosting customer numbers by hiring contractors to do the work for you on these or similar websites? There’s many benefits to diversifying.

Digital Assets

Lastly, there’s investing in digital assets. Think of it as digital real estate. You can flip websites, acquire and monetize blogs, publish e-books, or even start podcasting. Each requires an upfront effort but can pay off big time in the long term if you know what you’re doing. Ever heard of Pat Flynn? He’s a great example of someone who’s aced this approach – publishing books, running a successful podcast, and creating a brand that virtually runs itself.

Now, I’ve laid some of the groundwork here for you, but remember it can be extensive but I’m tying to keep it simple. Your first attempt doesn’t have to be your last. Each of these ventures can complement another and increase your overall market reach. In the next section, I’ll walk you through the ways to keep the momentum going and hot to maintain a positive mindset, which is absolutely critical to your long-term success.

    • Hi Troy and thanks for your comment.

definitely there is criteria to meet if we are to be successful. There’s no point going in blind so to speak, and having a positive mindset even when the doubts come is one way to continue through the demanding times and come  out the other end.

Also nice that you also mentioned diversifying. I think this is a safe practice to not have all the eggs in one basket. Maybe I’ll write on that topic also

      Thanks Again!
